DESIGN
The front side of the Mexican Silver Libertad shows the goddess of victory – the winged Victoria. This goddess is considered an important symbol in Mexican culture. Behind her are two volcanoes called Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl.
The back side of the Mexican Libertad currently shows the Mexican national seal. This seal is an eagle sitting on top of a cactus with a snake in its beak. Around the eagle are 10 symbols used to represent Mexico’s 10 provinces.
HISTORY
The Mexican Silver Libertad was first introduced in 1982 from the National Mint of Mexico, which has been in operation since the 1500’s. In the few years after the Silver Libertad’s release, its popularity soared. The National Mint of Mexico decided to release more coins and sizes in 1991. Today, the Silver Libertad remains a popular silver coin for collectors and investors.
