Since 2014, the Perth Mint has been releasing a series of coins shaped like the country of Australia and featuring some of the country’s most iconic animals. One of this year’s designs features the Great White Shark.
About the Great White
Often referred to as “White Pointers” in Australia, Great White Sharks are large-bodied sharks that live in the coastal waters (near the surface and shore where they can readily find prey) of the major oceans of the world.
Coin Design
This unique coin series is cast in 99.9% pure silver and features a colored reverse, which includes a Great White Shark swimming in front of a shipwreck. The words ‘GREAT WHITE SHARK,’ Perth’s ‘P’ mintmark and the year are also highlighted.
On the obverse side of the coin are Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the year and the monetary denomination. And yes, this coin is legal tender!
Perth Mint is only creating 6,000 of these beautiful coins. Each coin comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a presentation case to show off this treasure.
